Once Upon a Time in Fairfield, CT

Fairfield Sweet Shoppe

In the late 20s, the Sweet Shoppe, located at 628 Post Road, was owned and operated by the grandaunt and granduncle of the Chat-n-Chew owner!

Community Corner

This postcard entitled "Community Building" shows the corner of the Post Road and Old Post Road. It's postmarked 1938.

The Fairfield Library

Early card of the library including a horse drawn buggy! Note that surrounding the building are residences rather than retail establishments.

Post Office

The message on this card is dated 1909. No e-mail? Hitch up the team and take a ride into town. A penny postcard may not be as quick, but it lasts almost 100 years!

Motoring the Post Road

In 1934 motoring down the Post Road was quite the thing! Those were the days when $2.89 bought a full tank of gas.

Business Section

The business section is bustling with activity! Next time you're stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, horns honking, blood pressure rising, just remember it could be worse! Your horse could be thirsty and you could be miles from the nearest trough!

Boyle's Beach Casino

Mohegan Sun? Foxwoods?? Why travel all that way when you can hop into your Model-T and head over to Boyle's Beach Casino? Postcard was postmarked in 1914.
